"space elevator", the highest buildings project by NASA

Space Elevator is an elevator that is designed to send material from the earth's surface into space involves traveling through the structure instead of using the rockets. The concept often refers to a structure that reaches geostationary orbit about 35,786 km from the surface bumi.Konsep space elevator idea originated from a Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, who in 1985 proposed a compression structure, or the so-called Tower Tsiolkovsky.Lift space is also sometimes called space bridges, stairs to outer space, the tower's orbit, or orbital elevators.

However, current technology is not able to create a strong structure but also light for the space elevator. This is due to the total mass of construction using conventional materials is too large. The concept of the latest plan of making the space elevator is the use of carbon nanotube-based materials. It is known that the strength of the carbon nano-tube material in a microscopic scale is very strong when compared with other materials that have been there so can theoretically be used to manufacture the space elevator. New material can be used in the manufacture of elevator to another place in the solar system, like Mars, which has weaker gravity than Earth. Not yet known when this project will be implemented, the project has so far only a space elevator concept.
